Christian Aid is a Christian organisation that insists the world can and must be swiftly changed to one where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty.

It works globally for profound change that eradicates the causes of poverty, striving to achieve equality, dignity and freedom for all, regardless of faith or nationality. It is part of a wider movement for social justice.

It provides urgent, practical and effective assistance where need is great, tackling the effects of poverty as well as its root causes.

Christian Aid believes poverty is an outrage against humanity, robbing people of dignity, freedom and hope, of power over their own lives. Christian Aid has a vision – an end to poverty – and urges you to join in making that vision a reality.

Partnership approach

Christian Aid has a distinct partnership approach to development. It recognises that for needs to be met and change to be lasting, the development process must be locally owned and managed.

For example, some of Christian Aid partner organisations work to get clean, safe water to vulnerable communities. The communities themselves are at the heart of the projects, ensuring that the most suitable water-supply options are chosen for varying geographical and social contexts. Communities receive training to manage the supply systems once the projects are fully independent, helping to maintain a sustainable supply of clean water to benefit harvests and health now and in the future.
